BOTOX for Men
-
back

Overview

BOTOX® Cosmetic is certainly not just for women. Women may talk about their looks more often, but men are concerned about their appearance as well.

Men can benefit from a more youthful appearance through the use of BOTOX. Botox cosmetic injections are a great way for men to do something about their brow lines. A man who has pronounced lines between his brows may be perceived as angry or stressed—and he doesn't want to look that way. That's why it's not surprising that men are also choosing BOTOX® Cosmetic, a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment.

A BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment requires little time out of the office. So, it’s possible to have the procedure done during a lunch hour and head right back to the office.

History

Researchers discovered in the 1950s that injecting overactive muscles with minute quantities of botulinum toxin type A decreased muscle activity by blocking the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, thereby rendering the muscle unable to contract for a period of 4 to 6 months.

Alan Scott, a San Francisco ophthalmologist, first applied tiny doses of the toxin in a medicinal sense to treat 'crossed eyes' (strabismus) and 'uncontrollable blinking' (blepharospasm), but needed a partner to gain regulatory approval to market his discovery as a drug. Allergan, Inc., a pharmaceutical company that focused on prescription eye therapies and contact lens products, bought the rights to the drug in 1988 and received FDA approval in 1989. Allergan renamed the drug Botox.

Cosmetically desirable effects of Botox were first discovered by Vancouver-based cosmetic surgeons Drs. Alastair and Jean Carruthers. The serendipitous discovery occurred when the husband-and-wife team observed the softening of patients' frown lines following treatment for eye muscle disorders, leading to clinical trials and subsequent FDA approval for cosmetic use in April 2002. As of 2006, Botox injection is the most common cosmetic operation in the United States.

Overview

BOTOX® Cosmetic is approved for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18–65.
The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin,is commonly reffered to as Botox®. It is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crows feet near the eyes and thick bands in the neck. Botox does this by blocking the nerve impulses, paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother appearance. Botox represents an easy and cost effective way to look and feel years younger. Botox injections are administered on an out-patient basis and can help with a variety of cosmetic needs. Remove unwanted wrinkles. Banish unsightly neck bands. Clear away irksome crow's-feet.

Restylane - back

Overview

Restylane® injectable “filler” is made up of Hyaluronic acid used to reduce wrinkles around the mouth and nose. It is also frequently used to give the lips a full and voluptuous appearance and to reduce lip lines. The filler is injected just below the surface of the skin to add volume, smoothing unwanted lines and wrinkles.
Restylane® can be used to treat frown lines, smile lines, vertical lip lines, and acne scars. The effects of Restylane® can last for about six months.

Restylane maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane is hydrophilic or "water loving." As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide lasting results.

Juvederm (Juvaderm)

Juvéderm® is the newest dermal filler on the market, can be used to treat frown lines, smile lines, vertical lip lines, and acne scars. and is recommended to last six to nine months. JUVÉDERM® cosmetic facial fillers! JUVÉDERM® is a ‘next generation’ family of smooth, long-lasting gel dermal fillers, and the latest advance in hyaluronic acid cosmetic filler technology. Hyaluronic acid, a complex sugar already found naturally in the body, has become a favored compound for replenishing the areas of the face where the skin’s volume and fullness has been lost.

In the body, hyaluronic acid fills the space between collagen and elastin fibers of the skin. It is present in all living cells; attracting and binding water, hydrating and giving the skin smoothness and volume. However, as the body ages, the ability of the body’s cells to manufacture its own hyaluronic acid is diminished, resulting in the loss of skin volume, producing folds and wrinkles.

JUVÉDERM® is biosynthetic and of non-animal origin. Since it is not created from an animal source, there is little chance of allergic reaction. The formula is highly biocompatible, and no testing is required prior to administration. It has been proven to be safe and effective for skin of all types and colors.

Perlane

Perlane® restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). After your treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, and bruising. This will normally last less than seven days. Although rare, red or swollen small bumps may occur. If you have had herpes before, an injection can cause the herpes to return. In rare circumstances, the doctor may inject into a blood vessel, which can damage the skin. To avoid bruising and bleeding, you should not use Perlane if you have recently used drugs that thin your blood or prevent clotting. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18, you shouldn’t use Perlane®

Perlane is an injectable filler used to treat deep facial lines, augment the lips and contour the cheeks and chin. Perlane is made by Q-Med, the Swedish company that produces Restylane®, Perlane contains purified hyaluronic acid, a sugar found naturally in the body that works with collagen to keep the skin smooth and supple. It is hypoallergenic and so does not require a pre-treatment skin test. With its unique ability to bind with water, Perlane continues to perform up to 60% longer than collagen.
